Description

BIGUMA®- BAB 20 is suitable for filling joints between rails and adjacent surfaces such as stone paving, concrete or asphalt. BIGUMA®- BAB 20 is characterised by its particularly high stability. Its plastic-elastic formulation provides the optimum balance between movement absorption and stress relaxation in joints. Excellent adhesion to the rail and adjacent surface ensures a high ageing-resistance of the joint.

Application instructions

a) Melting

Heat carefully to 160–180 °C in a boiler with mechanical agitation, indirect heating and a thermometer. Regulate temperature thermostatically. Overheating damages polymers and voids guaranteed properties.

b) Requirements to the subsoil

Blow out rail joints with high-pressure air or clean with a brushing machine, keeping cleaning and application work strictly separated. Use hot compressed air lances for artificial drying or pre-heating. Remove loose rust from rail flanks by sand blasting or equivalent.
Use COLZUMIX®-Haftgrund primer adapted to this material to bind dust, form an adhesive layer fusing with the sealant and provide rust protection on prepared rail. The primer must cover joint flanks as a continuous film. Before filling, primer must be touch-dry.

c) Filling of the joints

Apply by can or pouring lance at the stated application temperature. If pouring temperature is too low, flow suffers and voids may form, later causing sag under traffic.
Cooling may cause shrinkage; a second pour may be needed immediately after the first. To prevent sinking of the rail joint compound the cell filling must always be stable. Install sealant at least 3 mm below the upper edge of the rail head.

Weather conditions

Seal only in dry weather with surface temperature of the component at least 0 °C.

Primer COLZUMIX®-Haftgrund: approx. 3 % of sealant quantity.

Storage

Store cold and dry; storable for at least 24 months.
