Description

BIGUMA®- Band is a polymer-modified, bituminous, rectangular formed, thermoplastic tape. It is perfectly suited for sealing joints in asphalt roads as they are created during new construction, maintenance projects and excavation work. Furthermore, BIGUMA®- Band enables joints between mounting sheets of different mix properties, fittings and concrete to be sealed.

Application

Before applying the joint tape, joint flanks must be primed with COLZUMIX®-Haftgrund. BIGUMA®-Band should be applied directly onto dry, touch-dry primer. The tape is rolled out along the joint edge with the separation layer facing up immediately after removal from the carton. Remove the paper layer and lightly melt one side with a propane cylinder, then press firmly onto the prepared joint flank—using an applicator or manually with a scraper. Contact with hot asphalt completes melting and bonds the flanks. Protect installed tape from traffic.

Requirements to the subsoil

Asphalt layer flanks (milled edges, cut edges, rolled flanks) must be dry, clean and free of frost, oil and grease. Remove all loose material. Hot air may be used to dry damp flanks. Seam flanks must be uniformly well compacted with good surface quality, ensured by appropriate measures during asphalt laying.

Weather conditions

Application only in dry weather and at a surface temperature of at least 5 °C. Below that, additional measures such as pre-heating joint flanks with a flame are necessary.

Material consumption

COLZUMIX®-Haftgrund: approx. 0.03 l/m per cm of layer thickness.

Equipment: BIGUMA®-SWS, petrol and commercial solvents
At skin contact: hand washing paste

Storage

Dry and cool. Pile height: max. 4 cartons. Storage life: at least 12 months under these conditions.
