BIGUMA®-Connect

BIGUMA®-Connect

Joint sealant which can be used without primer and which has passed testing by the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM)

Description

Our newly developed BIGUMA®- Connect joint sealant is perfectly suited for filling joints on road surfaces made from concrete. Thanks to its composition, it offers excellent adhesion to mineral substrates and can be used to fill joints on road surfaces made from concrete, even without primer, which cuts out an entire stage of the work process.

Approvals: TL Fug-StB, DIN EN 14188-1, Typ N2, Performance testing by the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) (test report BAM 7.1/17038499)

Advantages

  • Primer not required on concrete
  • Excellent adhesion to mineral substrates
  • Excellent stress relaxation, even at low temperatures
  • Excellent performance properties at hot and cold temperatures
  • High ageing-resistance of joint

Available packaging

Carton: 25 kg, 20 kg, 10 kg
Metal containers: 28 kg

Technical info

Application instructions

a) Melting the joint sealant

Melt gently to 160–180 °C using mechanical agitation, indirect heating and a thermostatically controlled melter. Avoid thermal overload—this damages polymers and voids assured properties. Unmixed processing is required; remelting unmixed material within max. temperatures is allowed.

b) Requirements for the substrate

Joint flanks must be clean, dust-free and free of separating substances for good bond to concrete or asphalt.
In concrete traffic areas form the joint gap (chamber) as late as possible (min. 14 days) after the kerb section. Concrete moisture in the sealant zone must be below 4 %.
Component temperature must be between +5 °C and +40 °C. Surface temperature in the joint area must be at least 3 K above dew point when pouring.
Blow out joints with oil-free compressed air or clean with a brushing machine if needed, with clear separation between cleaning and pouring.
Carry out other construction that could foul joint flanks only after pouring. Use pressurised hot-air devices for artificial drying or heating of the filing space if necessary.
Thanks to its formulation, BIGUMA®-Connect bonds permanently to mineral surfaces without primer. If primer is required, COLZUMIX® adhesive primer may be used—compatibility is ensured.

c) Filling the joints

Apply sealant immediately after cleaning. BIGUMA®-Connect may be cast with a pouring lance or from a pot at the stated processing temperature. Excessive temperature reduces fluidity and can prevent complete filling, risking voids and later sagging under traffic.
For concrete joints, apply a suitable priming filler first to set sealant height in the joint. The filler must cover the entire joint base, prevent escape into voids and avoid three-flank adhesion—which can cause tension failure.
After pouring, volume reduction may require a second step; apply the next layer immediately after the first. On traffic areas pour from concrete flush downward.

Weather conditions

Pour only in dry weather with component surface temperature above 5 °C.

Material consumption

BIGUMA®-Connect: joint length (m) × joint width (mm) × joint depth (mm) × sealant density (g/cm³) = consumption in grams.
Optional primer: COLZUMIX® adhesive primer approx. 3 % of sealant applied.

Cleaning agents

Equipment: petrol or common solvents
At skin contact: hand cleansing paste

Storage

At least 24 months when stored cool and dry.
