Description

BIGUMA®-Plast is a fibre-reinforced, elastomer coated and filled bituminous compound which has been specially developed to create lasting bonds between seams in asphalt road construction in accordance with the supplementary technical conditions of contract and guidelines for the construction of asphalt road surfaces (ZTV Asphalt StB). This seam bonding agent is versatile and is suitable for construction work of all sizes, as the product can be applied both by machine and by hand. BIGUMA®-Plast is characterised by its excellent penetrability and high adhesive strength.

Application instructions

Application

Apply mechanically or by spatula, towel or brush. Cover the seam area completely up to the upper edge of the seam flank. Overdose or surface spread beyond the seam zone risks loosening of the asphalt layer or cover. Drying time depends on weather conditions; the hot asphalt mixture can be applied immediately after BIGUMA®-Plast as the solvent flashes off by the heat of the mix. Apply the asphalt mix on the same day for optimum bonding. The MANUPLASTER hand-guided device is recommended for even layer thickness and fast progress.

Requirements of the seam flank

Seam areas must be dry, clean, frost-free, and free from oil and grease; remove loose particles. Aim for a smooth, lightly chamfered profile when placing or compacting the first layer (using an edge chamfer former and edge roller); if not achieved at that stage, bevel the still-hot layer straight before treatment.

Weather conditions

Surface and ambient temperature must be above 5 °C; avoid water and frost throughout application.

Material consumption

Approx. 20–30 g per cm asphalt layer thickness and metre seam length. The lower value applies to cut edges, the upper value to milled edges.

Skin contact: hand washing paste

Storage

At least 12 months in original unopened tin. Reseal opened tins. A bitumen-solvent film may form on the surface — stir it back in; quality is unaffected.
