Description

BIGUMA®-RS is suitable for repairing cracks and seams in asphalt and concrete roads, even when using overseal banding. The special crack sealing compound is characterised by its high stability, even when exposed to sunlight, and does not stick to tires when driven over.

Application instructions

a) Melting

BIGUMA®-RS has to be heated carefully to the application temperature of 170–180 °C in a boiler with mechanical agitation, indirect heating and thermometer. The sealant temperature must be thermostatically regulated and controllable at all times. Overheating must be avoided — it damages the polymers and leads to loss of guaranteed properties.

b) Requirements to the subsoil

Existing cracks must be blown with a hot-air lance (crack-covering / overseal procedure) or milled first (milling–sealing procedure). Remove all foreign matter and loose material from the crack zone. The hot-air lance warms the asphalt at the crack faces and activates the bitumen. Primer is not required with this method. If needed, use COLZUMIX®-Haftgrund matched to BIGUMA®-RS.

c) Filling of the cracks

Carry out crack filling in accordance with the HSR guidance ("Hints for the repair of cracks as well as damaged seams and connections in traffic areas made of asphalt"). For overseal banding and milling–sealing, apply sealant to the crack with a shoe/slider; width depends on crack geometry.
At application temperature the fluid sealant penetrates the crack and bonds to the faces. Part of the sealant remains on the surface, overlaps the crack and helps prevent separation from the faces.
Application thickness is about 2–3 mm. For grip and visual blending, spread fine pre-bituminised chippings (grading approx. 1/3 mm) on the hot sealant immediately after pouring and press in.
Procedure selection depends on crack width and damage (see manufacturer HSR chart).

Weather conditions

Prepared areas may only be sealed in dry weather and at a surface temperature of at least 0 °C.

Material consumption

BIGUMA®-RS: crack length (cm) × slider width (cm) × scraper height (cm) × sealant density (g/cm³), plus allowance for crack volume depending on depth and width = consumption (g).
Primer: COLZUMIX®-Haftgrund approx. 3 % of the sealant quantity required when primer is used.

Store cool and dry; shelf life at least 24 months.
