BIGUMA®-TL 82

BIGUMA®-TL 82

Polymer-modified, bituminous joint sealant

Description

BIGUMA®- TL 82 is a premium joint sealant which is suitable for filling joints on road surfaces made from concrete and asphalt. The plastic-elastic formulation ensures an optimal balance between movement absorption and stress relaxation in the joint while at the same time offers an excellent adhesion between the bituminous and mineral substrates. Thanks to its balanced properties, BIGUMA®- TL 82 is suitable for a wide range of applications.

Technical standards: TL Fug-StB, DIN EN 14188-1, Type N2

Advantages

  • Good adhesion to bituminous and mineral substrates
  • High ageing-resistance of joint
  • Excellent performance properties at hot and cold temperatures

Available packaging

Carton: 25 kg, 10 kg, 4 × 5 kg
Metal containers: 30 kg, 10 kg

Application instructions

a) Melting

BIGUMA®-TL 82 must be heated carefully to the application temperature of 160 – 180 °C in a boiler with mechanical agitation, indirect heating and thermometer. The sealant temperature must be thermostatically regulated and controllable at all times. Overheating must be avoided — it damages the polymers and leads to loss of guaranteed properties.

b) Requirements to the subsoil

Concrete and asphalt joints must be blown out with high-pressure air or cleaned with a brushing machine if needed; cleaning and application must be carried out separately. Hot compressed-air lances may be used for drying or pre-heating.
Use COLZUMIX®-Haftgrund primer designed for this material. The primer binds dust on concrete or asphalt and forms an adhesive layer that fuses with the sealant.
The primer must cover the joint flanks as a film; prime about a 1 cm strip on both sides of the pavement. Before filling, the primer must be touch-dry. The primed joint must be dry and dust-free for a strong bond.

c) Filling of the joints

BIGUMA®- TL 82 can be poured by hand or mechanically with an application lance. The sealant must be at the specified temperature when poured; too low a temperature reduces flow and can leave voids that later sink under traffic.
Apply a suitable bedding material first to set sealant height in the joint; bed it firmly at the joint base. This limits leakage into voids and avoids three-flank bonding, which can cause failure under tension. Shrinkage on cooling may require a second pour immediately after the first. Pour under flushing.

Weather conditions

Prepared joints may only be sealed in dry weather and at a surface temperature of at least 0 °C.

Material consumption

BIGUMA®-TL 82: joint length (cm) × joint width (cm) × joint depth (cm) × specific gravity of the sealant (g/cm³) = consumption (g).
Primer: COLZUMIX®-Haftgrund approx. 3 % of the sealant quantity required.

Cleaning agents

Equipment: petrol and commercial solvents
Skin contact: hand washing paste

Storage

Store cool and dry; shelf life at least 24 months. Observe the safety data sheet for handling, transport and storage.
