Highly elastic bitumen-latex emulsion sealant, solvent-free

Description

DOBAU®- Plast S is a thixotropic sealant paste specially developed for sealing balconies and terraces against water. In addition, it is used to seal against ground moisture on floor slabs and walls which are in contact with the ground. Thanks to its thixotropic properties, DOBAU®- Plast S can be seamlessly applied to vertical surfaces.

Application instructions

Substrate

Building areas must be firm, smooth, free of nests, gaping cracks and burrs as well as free of impurities. Unclosed recesses that are larger than 5 mm, such as mortar pockets, open butt and horizontal joints or outbreaks, must be closed with suitable mortar. Masonry surfaces, open butt joints to 5 mm and surface profiles or uneven areas of stones must be closed or equalised either by plastering (thin or levelling plaster), sealing slurry or by scratch filling. Bubbles in bitumen roof membranes must be cut out and closed properly. For sufficient adhesion to the substrate, e.g. old and new roofing membranes and sheeting, a primer such as DOBAU®-Voranstrich Duo is necessary. Sheeting containing tar must not be coated with DOBAU®-Plast S, as bitumen is incompatible with tar.

Establishing the seal

The sealant is applied in minimum two layers with or without reinforcement inlay, e.g. with a paintbrush, spatula, fine brush or similar. The following coatings may only be applied after the previous sealing layer has fully dried (depending on transport conditions 1–3 days). The coating is dried once it adheres firmly to the substrate and is elastic. When working on flat roofs, the dried two-layer seal is also coated with another layer and spread with slate cladding when fresh and still moist. To make it easier to clean the tools later, these must be moistened before use and cleaned with water immediately afterwards.

Weather conditions

At the application of DOBAU®-Plast S the ground and air temperatures have to be more than 5 °C. The effects of water, rain and frost must be avoided during the processing and drying phase.

Material consumption

Repairing flat roofs/garages: min. 2-layer with DOBAU®-Vlies, per layer 1.5 kg/m². Protective layer during roofing work: approx. 1 kg/m² DOBAU®-Plast S with 4–6 kg/m² slate cladding 1/3 mm. Repairing balconies and terraces: min. 2-layer, per layer 1.5 kg/m² (a separating layer, e.g. PE film, must be provided between the seal and building on top). For protection against ground moisture: min. 2-layer, per layer 1.5 kg/m². DOBAU®-Vlies can be used to increase the tensile and tear strength of the seal. The fabric lining is proven effective when forming passages and wall connections in particular.

Cleaning agents

Tools and other objects can be cleaned with water when fresh and when set with BIGUMA®-SWS.

Storage

Can be stored for at least 12 months in the unopened container. Opened containers can be stored by placing the film back over the remaining amount and keeping the container well closed. The containers must be kept away from frost. Avoid direct sunlight or strong heat.
