BIGUMA®-VPD

BIGUMA®-VPD

Polymer-modified bituminous joint sealant for facilities for the storage, filling and handling of water endangering liquids

Description

We have developed BIGUMA®-VPD especially for the specific requirements of facilities for the storage, filling and handling of water endangering liquids. Furthermore, BIGUMA®-VPD can also be used for asphalt sealing surfaces in storage, filling and handling facilities and in biogas and slurry, manure and silage effluent storage and filling facilities. This joint sealant is characterised primarily by its resistance to aqueous solutions, salts, dilute acids and other water pollutants as well as its excellent adhesive properties. In addition, BIGUMA®-VPD joint sealant is suitable for filling joints on road surfaces made from concrete and rolled and mastic asphalt as well as semi-rigid road surfaces in areas without particular chemical or biological stress.

Technical standards: DIBt Z-74.6-93, DIBt Z-74.62-158, TL Fug-StB, DIN EN 14188-1, Type N2, AwSV

Advantages

  • high chemical resistance to aqueous solutions, salts, diluted acids and other substances hazardous to water
  • bitumen-based product and therefore easy to recycle
  • good bonding of the bituminous and mineral subsoil
  • plastic elastic set, therefore optimum balance between high movement accommodation and stress relief
  • good application characteristics at heat and cold temperatures
  • high ageing resistance of the joint
  • high resistance to fermentation substrates of agricultural origin

Available packaging

Carton: 10 kg, 25 kg. Metal containers: 9 kg, 27 kg.

Application instructions

a) Melting

Heat BIGUMA®-VPD carefully to 150–180 °C in a boiler with mechanical agitation, indirect heating and thermometer. Regulate thermostatically; controllable at all times. Avoid overheating — polymers may be damaged. Maximum dwell time at processing temperature: 6 h.

b) Requirements to the subsoil

Blow out or brush-clean concrete and asphalt joints, keeping cleaning and application work separate. Hot-air lances may be used for drying or pre-heating. Use COLZUMIX®-VPD primer, which is especially designed for this product, to bind dust and form an adhesive layer that fuses with the sealant.
Minimum cooling time after priming before filling: 30 minutes. If no filler is applied within 24 h after priming, roughen joint flanks and re-prime with COLZUMIX®-VPD. Check compatibility with any coatings on rising components; remove incompatible coatings in the joint zone. Do not mix BIGUMA®-VPD with solvent-containing coatings (e.g. silo varnish) — protect the joint sealant before any new coating application.

c) Filling of the joints

Apply by hand pour or pouring lance at the stated temperature. Pouring at too low a temperature reduces flowability and risks voids and sinking under traffic. A priming filler or separating strip may be required before pouring. Apply a suitable bedding material to set sealant height, ensure it is seated firmly at the joint base, prevent leakage into voids and avoid three-flank bonding. Apply a second pour immediately after the first if shrinkage occurs.
BIGUMA®-VPD is chemically and mechanically loadable at the latest 2 hours after cooling. When used within the scope of approvals Z-74.6-93 and Z-74.62-158, the executing company must fulfil requirements of a specialist company per Art. 62 AwSV.

Weather conditions

Only in dry weather with surface temperature at least 5 °C.

Material consumption

BIGUMA®-VPD: joint length (cm) × joint width (cm) × joint depth (cm) × sealant density (g/cm³) = consumption (g).
Primer COLZUMIX®-VPD: approx. 3 % of the sealant quantity required.

Cleaning agents

Equipment: BIGUMA®-SWS, petrol and commercial solvents
Skin contact: hand washing paste

Storage

Store cool and dry; shelf life at least 24 months.
