Description

Aircraft weighing several tons exert a significant force on the joint edges of concrete road surfaces when taking off and landing. We have developed the specially modified, transparent primer COLZUMIX®-Airfield for such applications. Thanks to its outstanding adhesive properties, COLZUMIX®-Airfield ensures an excellent bond of the joint seal in concrete and asphalt road surfaces in conjunction with our BIGUMA®-Airfield joint sealant.

Application instructions

a) Preparatory work

Blow asphalt and concrete joints with high-pressure air or brush-clean; keep cleaning separate from application. Hot compressed-air lances may be used for drying or pre-heating.

b) Application of the primer

The primer binds dust on concrete and asphalt and forms an adhesive layer that later fuses with the sealant. Apply COLZUMIX®- Airfield by spraying or brushing so joint flanks are fully covered as a film. Apply about a 1 cm strip on both sides of the pavement. Use only as much primer as needed so it does not pool in the bottom of the joint.

c) Filling of the joints

Before applying sealant, the primer must be touch-dry. Primed joints must be dry and dust-free. Apply sealant directly after the primer has dried. Avoid contaminating dried primer with dust or water — bonding to the sealant may suffer.

Weather conditions

Prepared joints may only be sealed in dry weather and at a surface temperature of at least 0 °C.

COLZUMIX®- Airfield: approx. 3 % of the sealant quantity required.

Cleaning agents

Equipment: BIGUMA®- SWS, petrol and commercial solvents
Skin contact: hand washing paste

Storage

Store only in well ventilated areas; protect from direct sunlight. Shelf life at least 24 months when stored cool and dry. Observe the safety data sheet.
